01He founded Grace Insurance in 2015
Frans du Plessis is the founder and director of Grace Insurance, the brokerage Barbershop Insurance is part of. He started it in Perth in 2015.
02He has worked in broking since 1992
Frans has worked in insurance broking since 1992. He wrote Grace Insurance's guide to hairdresser and barber insurance in 2019 and updated it in December 2024.
03He is qualified and licensed
He holds a Diploma in Broking and is a Fellow CIP, short for Certified Insurance Professional. He is Authorised Representative No. 1008569, meaning a licensed business authorises him to give insurance advice.
04He won NIBA Western Australian Broker of the Year 2023
Frans won the NIBA (National Insurance Brokers Association) Western Australian Broker of the Year award in 2023. The award was made to Frans personally.

What Does an Insurance Broker Do?
An insurance broker finds and arranges cover for you, and the insurer is the company that issues the policy and pays claims. We are the broker, and the insurer's name is on your policy.
We arrange your cover
We find out how you work, take your details to insurers and explain the options they offer. Once you choose, we arrange the policy, and we help you change it when your work changes.
The insurer issues the policy
The insurer underwrites the policy, which means it decides whether to offer cover, on what terms and at what price. It then issues the policy and your certificate of currency, the short document that proves your cover is active.
We help you when you claim
The insurer assesses each claim and pays the ones the policy covers. We are your advocate: we help you prepare and lodge the claim and deal with the insurer for you.

We ask insurers to quote
We can approach more than 160 insurers and ask 2 to 12 of them to quote. Fewer insurers quote on some specialist liability covers, so you may see fewer options.
We explain your options
For each option we set out what it covers, what it leaves out, the limit and the price. If any word on the policy is unclear, ask us.
You choose, and we arrange it
We arrange the policy you pick with the insurer and get you your certificate of currency. We contact you at least 30 days before it renews to check it still suits the way you work.
